Blue Spruce Trees

The Blue Spruce Tree occurs naturally in the western United States mostly in Western Colorado.
The Colorado Blue Spruce is slow growing and is tolerant of a wide range of climate and soil conditions. Most satisfactory growth is obtained in rich moist well drained soil. As a class the spruces are fairly drought-resistant and frost-hardy.
Known as fine ornamental trees with foliage that varies from dull green to blueish green or silvery white. The apparent blue color comes from a coating on the needles forming at high altitude reflecting the ultraviolet rays that dry out the needles.
